Process

Behavioral therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a scientifically well- established therapeutic approach. It focuses on how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected and influence one another. Together, we will identify the patterns that maintain your symptoms and work step by step to implement concrete changes.

The therapy is primarily focused on the present—without ignoring biographical background.

How therapy works.

Regardless of the procedure, our treatment follows a clear, transparent path—at your own pace.

  1. 01
    Initial Consultation & Introduction

The first meeting is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. You’ll describe what’s on your mind, and I’ll explain how I work. There’s no obligation at this stage.

  2. 02
    Diagnosis & medical history

In the following sessions, we will work together to determine when your difficulties began and in what situations they occur. We will take the time to fully understand your unique situation and your resources.

  3. 03
    Agree on goals

Based on your wishes and needs, we will work together to determine what we want to focus on and at what pace.

  4. 04
    Treatment phase

During the core treatment phase, we use individually tailored methods—such as cognitive techniques, behavioral exercises, or mindfulness-based approaches.

Process

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a well-researched scientific method for processing distressing experiences and the effects of trauma. It is used in particular when distressing experiences remain strongly present internally and manifest in daily life, for example, through tension, hyperarousal, avoidance, or recurring distressing memories. EMDR helps not only to cognitively understand these experiences but also to emotionally reprocess them.

Procedure

The initial focus is on a thorough diagnostic assessment and stabilization. Only once there is sufficient assurance will the traumatic memory be addressed in a targeted manner within the therapeutic setting.

During this process, you focus on the distressing experience while at the same time following an external, rhythmic stimulus— usually through guided eye movements, and sometimes through sounds or gentle tactile stimuli. This bilateral stimulation supports the brain’s processing of the memory.

Effect

The goal of EMDR is not to suppress or erase memories, but to significantly reduce the emotional distress. The memory remains as part of one’s life story, but loses its immediate emotional intensity.

This makes it easier to come to terms with and less burdensome in everyday life.
